It gives us immense pleasure to inform you that, the Centre for Tribal Studies is organizing a webinar on 23rd of May 2021, Sunday at 3 p.m. The topic for the webinar is 'Impact on Tribal traditions and livelihood post the emergence of Naxalism'. Dr. Debendra Kumar Biswal, and Dr. Kapila Khemundu are invited as esteemed speakers. We cordially invite all of you to attend and we look forward to conducting an enriching session.

About the Webinar

Odisha is the state with the second-highest percentage of tribal population in India and has seen the waxing and waning of Naxalite movement. In furtherance of the objectives of our centre to foster discussion, we wish to critically analyse how the lives of tribal communities have been affected in and around Odisha. The sociological and legal aspects will be dealt with in detail.


About the Speakers

Dr. Debendra Kumar Biswal.
Dr. Debendra Biswal is an Associate Professor at Central University of Jharkhand. He holds Ph. D. in Anthropology from University of Delhi and completed his M. Phil from JNU. His area of interest lies in Legal Anthropology, Tribal Unrest, Customary Law, Human Rights, Tribal Medical Anthropology, and Environment and Health. He also holds a law degree. Dr. Biswal expertises in Customary and Tribal Justice, Human Rights and Tribal People in India, and Socio-legal Research Methodology.

Dr. Kapila Khemundu.
Dr. Kapila Khemundu is an Associate Professor and Head In-charge of the Department of Sociology, Central University of Odisha, Koraput. He is a Ph. D. holder and also has done M. Phil in Sociology. His area of interest lies in Sociological Theories and Methodologies, Social Change and Development, Tribal Studies, and Social Movements. His research area expands to Sociology of Crime and Deviance.
