NLU Odisha conducting the Study Abroad Programme on “Law and Justice in India”

NLU Odisha and Centurion University, Bhubaneswar are jointly offering the Study Abroad Programme on “Law and Justice in India” for students of Victoria University, Australia from February 1-16, 2019. The participants of the course consist of 10 Australian law students and 8 NLU Odisha students.  The programme was initiated with the delivery of lectures by NLUO faculty illuminating the ‘Indian legal system’ and constitutional structures and governance on 1st February.   Another lecture was delivered on ‘Justice for the poor and disadvantaged’ on 4th February, which was very interesting and enlightening for exchange students.  As part of the programme, Australian students along with NLUO students visited the High Court of Orissa and witnessed the sessions. They paid a visit to the State Legal Services Authority where officials briefed them about the functioning of the institution. They displayed how Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms and other free legal services are offered in different cases. There was also a scheduled visit to the Magistrate Court and the Juvenile Justice Board and Child Welfare Committee, which the Australian students found very exciting. Consequently, cultural activities were held with resounding success. The Australian exchange students had the opportunity to make an impressive trip to the legal aid clinic of NLUO, located in Dompada on 7th February.  They were accompanied by approximately 30 students of NLUO who played a skit aiming at making local people aware of legal aspects of women empowerment.
