“Constitutional Law Society: NLUO is organising its 5th Academic Guest Lecture on January 25th”

The Constitutional Law Society of National Law University Odisha is delighted to invite Mr. Shadan Farasat, Advocate-on-Record, Supreme Court for its 5th Academic Guest Lecture on the topic: 'Scrutinising the Constitutionality of Citizenship Amendment Act and potential impact of NPR and NRC'. The introduction of the Citizenship Amendment Act and the possible initiation of the schemes of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the National Population Register (NPR) in the future begs the requirement of an informed and constructive discussion or dialogue. The Constitutional Law Society aims to discuss and deliberate on the issue, observing the constitutional changes coupled with the social upheaval that has been caused by these developments.  

The guest lecture will be held on the 25th of January, 2020 between 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm and the venue for the same is Seminar Hall, Academic Block. The Society cordially invites all faculty members and students to attend this lecture. 

A brief profile of Mr. Shadan Farasat-

 Mr Shadan Farasat is an Advocate-on-Record at the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India. Mr. Farasat has completed his B.A. LLB (Hons.) from National Law School of India University in 2006 and his Master of Laws (LLM) from Harvard Law School in 2009. Mr. Farasat has notably represented the Bhartiya Muslim Mahila Andolan (BMMA) in Shayara Bano vs Union of India or the Triple Talaq case. Mr. Farasat has also recently appeared for Mr. Sitaram Yechury, the general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in a petition challenging illegal detentions made in Kashmir and is also importantly the Advocate-on-Record for the petitioners Mr. Deb Mukharji, Mr. Somasundar Burra and Mr. Amitabha Pande in a petition challenging the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 before the Supreme Court.

 Mr. Farasat is also a frequent contributor to Huffington Post India, The Hindu and the Indian Express."
