19th February, 2019: NLU Odisha hosted Prof.Sourish Dasgupta to deliver a talk on the topic “Making Academic Research More Effective With Artificial Intelligence”

National Law University hosted Prof. Sourish Dasgupta, Assistant Professor at Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information Communication and Technology, Gandhinagar.  Prof. Dasgupta was here to talk about the academic research tool ‘Raxter’ developed by him. Under his talk Prof. Dasgupta threw light on the technicalities of research and how most of the researches done by researcher are not able to being published due to lack of novelty or are not able to draw enough comparison with other contemporary works. This is where academic research tool of ‘Raxter’ comes in handy says Prof. Dasgupta. Not only does ‘Raxter’ helps in drawing reference from unlimited resources but also helps a researcher in keeping his or her research intact by saving the context of the work on which he or she was working upon last time.

 

Prof. Dasgupta talks about how the tool has shown a positive signs across European Union and American Institutions, who have subscribed to the ‘Raxter’ program. Prof Dasgupta also threw light on privacy concerns of many institutions by saying that ‘Raxter’ does not store the work of researcher once he or she chooses to opt out of the research tool. Additionally, Prof Dasgupta talked about the working of Artificial intelligence as how the A.I can be a more productive tool for us for enhancing our research capacity and also talked about the feature of ‘Raxter’ which also provides for recommendation as to where one should send his or her research work for publication.

 

At the end of the session, Prof. Dasgupta took questions from the students. While answering the questions, Prof. Dasgupta also mentioned about the integrated library available under the ‘Raxter’ program under which they have so far integrated four universities and are planning to expand their database. It will help in creating an academic pool of books of all the integrated Universities under the ‘Raxter’ program. After the end of the session, Prof. Dasgupta was felicitated by the Registrar Dr. Yogesh Pratap Singh and Prof. Dasgupta left with a humble promise that he will return to the National Law University-Odisha very soon.
