Shivani is presently an Assitant Professor of Law at National Law University, Odisha. They Joined as a Research Associate cum Teaching assistant in 2022. Shivani is an alumnus of NLU Odisha, having completed their LLM in constitution laws from here. Their dissertation was on the topic ‘Marriage Equality: A Constitutional Perspective after the Navtej Singh Johar Judgment’. They have completed their BBA LLB from Symbiosis International (Deemed) University, and have cleared the UGC-NET examination in 2022. The focus area of their research is constitution laws, and gender and sexuality laws; with queer methods. Their long-term goal is to make legal education accessible to all intersections of society. Before joining the University, since 2019 they were freelancing as an educator and guiding aspirants for various competitive exams such as Judicial services exams, CLAT-PG exam, and recently the UGC-NET exam. They provide free online mentoring and guidance to students from marginalised communities. Shivani is a peer support practitioner, and provides free peer support to queer people in need; for which they have undergone training on Peer Support Practice with  Mariwala Health Initiative (MHI). Apart from academics, they have been trained in Hindustani Vocal Music for more than five years from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Prayagraj; and have successfully completed the Basic Mountaineering Course with a Grade ‘A’ from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi. They are also a self-taught fine artist. Administrative responsibilities:

  • 2015: Participated in the workshop under ‘Operation Smile’ conducted by Uttarakhand Pulice at Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. Operation Smile, also called Operation MUSKAAN is an initiative of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to rescue/rehabilitate missing children.
  • 2014-2015: Ed- Support Vulunteer, Make a Difference, an Indian non-profit organisation, working to ensure better outcomes for children in orphanages and shelters across India.
  • 2012: Selected as a part of the Indian contingent for visiting Japan for the KIZUNA Project by the Japan International Cooperation Centre (JICE). This project was a part of Japanese reconstruction plans and aimed at promoting global understanding of Japan’s revival efforts in response to the Great East Japan Earthquake.
  • 2011: Won 1st prize in National Youth Parliament.
