“National Seminar on Women Police Station/ Mahila Thana-2022, held on 28th October 2022”
The Centre for Women and Law (CWL), National Law University, Odisha (NLUO) in collaboration with National Commission for Women organised a National Seminar on Women Police Station/Mahila Thanas (Working, Efficiency and Effectiveness) on 28th October 2022.The inaugural session consisted of a speech by Ms.Manjari Jaruhar, Rtd. IPS, Advisor to Tata Consultancy Services.
The seminar post the inaugural session was divided into three sessions; Panel Discussion, Key Note Address by Dr. Kiran Bedi and third session of Paper Presentations. The Panel Discussion was chaired by eminent dignitaries: Ms. Manjari Jaruhar, Rtd. IPS, Tata Consultancy Services; Ms. Rekha Lohani, IPS, Additional. Commissioner. Of Police (Bbsr- Ctc); Ms. Rashmi Rekha Baug, Co- Director, CWL, NLUO; Ms. Anusuya Nayak, Mahila Thana I/c, Cuttack; Ms. Durgeshwari, Dy. Mahila Thana I/c, Bhubaneshwar; Ms, Santoshini Behera, Mahila Thana I/c Bhubaneswar, Mr. Sushil Kumar Ray, Retd. District Judge and Registrar of Odisha State Commission for Women, and Ms. Rosaline Sahoo from MADHYAM. A research team comprising of students namely: Research Team of Centre for Women and Law comprising of : Ms. Jayanti Jaya, Ms. Amreen Anwar, Ms. Sparsha S., Ms. Pavanta Arya, Ms. Pratha Barla and Ms. Jahnavi Bhattathipad. They were assisted by Ms. Himani Jaruhar, Mr. Tanmay Mishra, Mr. Rohan Patnaik, Ms. Aditi Sinha from NLUO brought together by CWL, NLUO, also presented their research work on Women Police Station/Mahila Thanas (Working, Efficiency and Effectiveness) to the audience.
The second session consisted of an Open House discussion with Dr. Kiran Bedi, Retd. IPS, Ex-Lieutenant Governor. Participants from various universities posed questions to Dr Bedi on topics such as Domestic Violence and the Law, the concept of Women Police Stations and representation of women in the police force. Dr Bedi also touched upon the importance of ethics in Law and urged the audience not to compromise on their morals. The seminar concluded with Paper presentations by academicians, practitioners, and participants from different universities.
The third session consisted of Paper presentations by different scholars across the country. It went on in parallel sessions in three rooms.
